30 Everyday Adventures 2023

Now Lotta and I have started 30 new everyday adventures, five years after completing our first 100 adventures.

When we finished our first 50 adventures in 2016, we agreed that it added a lot of value to our daily lives and wanted to continue for another year with 50 new adventures. After completing those adventures, we wanted to focus on living a daily life with continued new exciting experiences but without specific goals. In early 2018, we bought a small cabin in the mountains to see if it could be a way to get closer to nature and easily experience new environments.

After five years with our cabin, we felt the urge for a new little challenge. In the meantime, among other things, we have explored 25 different mountain peaks, several of which have become favorite peaks that we have visited many times in all seasons.

The inspiration for our everyday adventures originally came from Micael Dahlen's book "Kaosologi" where he tries 50 new behaviors in a year, and from Louise Östberg who completes 365 different small adventures in a row, which she talks about in the "Husky" podcast.

We have made our own definition of everyday adventures that suits our life and goals. The adventures should be short and easy for most people to do, yet a bit challenging or feel new in some way for us or for someone we bring along. To count as an everyday adventure, we both had to participate, as we wanted to focus on shared experiences.

As I wrote in one of my blog posts about inspiration, it consists of three parts: evocation, motivation, and transcendence. Evocation means experiencing something that triggers emotions, these emotions give energy and motivate you to act. Transcendence means seeing things in a new way, seeing new opportunities and starting to act on those opportunities.

In short, we were inspired to actually change something. That change has led to many great shared experiences, where over the years we have set different goals that have helped us direct our energy towards various challenges, such as swimming in 30 different places in a month, or swimming 1000 meters in open water every day for a month. Now it's time to focus a little extra on everyday adventures again.

100 Everyday adventures 2016-2017

Sandarne, December 27th, 2017

We have now completed 100 everyday adventures and, at least temporarily, decided to discontinue the adventure project. Instead, we think small adventures in nature should continue to be a natural part of life. Below you will find some of our favorites from 2017.
